19.08.2018 - 25.08.2018

Francesca Canali The artist, born in Rome, is an internationally demanded soloist, teacher and academic. Her activities as a soloist and chamber musician took place at renowned music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Musical Olympus International Festival in St. Petersburg, the Festival Castell de Peralada (Spain), as well as in many great concert halls (e.g. Wigmore Hall, London, Konzerthaus Wien, Salzburg Festspielhaus, Konzerthaus Dortmund. Palau de la Musica Catalana, Barcelona) and to Japan, Cuba,Venezuela, Colombia, Russia and South Africa. She completed her studies in Rome, Paris, Saluzzo, Siena and Salzburg with distinction. Her teachers were (among others) Irena Grafenauer, James Galway, Patrick Gallois, Michael Kofler, Alain Marion, Maxence Larrieu, Aurèle Nicolet and Angelo Persichilli. She intensified her musical education by studies in voice, chamber music and old music (flauto traverse) and completed numerous studies and master classes with Sergiu Celibidache in Paris and with Leonard Bernstein in Rome. Finally she achieved a doctor's degree (PhD) in pedagogy at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. Francesca Canali is a prize-winner at many international competitions (e.g. the Maria Canals competition in Barcelona) and numerous scholarships for 'outstanding artistic activities' (e.g. Italian Ministero degli Affari Esteri and Austrian 'Bundesministerium für Unterricht und Kunst'). She is a versatile artist with a wide repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music. She has inspired and first-performed some new music for flute. Besides her concert activity she passionately committed herself to teaching and research, following new methods in instrumental teaching and combining artistic, scientific, pedagogic, social and spiritual aspects in her musical activities. The results of her extensive interdisciplinary scientific research about physiological and psychological processes of sound production on wind instruments and their functional-physiologic similarities with singing reveal new horizons in instrumental teaching and lead to a development of a new integrated and scientifically based pedagogical model. Francesca Canali has been invited as an expert by many institutions and universities and she regularly leads seminars, workshops and master classes all over the world. Due to her deep interest in innovative approaches and new teaching methods she has been invited for extended concert tours and lectures to Africa and South America (e.g. 'El Sistema'/Venezuela, 'Fundación Batuta' and 'Filarmonica Joven de Colombia', 'Miagi' and 'Keiskamma Music Academy'/South Africa).
