Youth course - Summer Camp for young FLUTISTS

solo & flute ensemble

22.08.2021 - 28.08.2021

Francesca Canali Francesca Canali, born in Rome, is an internationally acclaimed flute soloist, pedagogue and scientific researcher. She graduated „cum laude“ (master’s degree and post-graduate studies in flute soloist and chamber music performance) from renowned Universities of Music as the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris and the Conservatorio and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Her artistic development was greatly influenced by such flautists as Irena Grafenauer, James Galway, Michael Kofler, Patrick Gallois, Maxence Larrieu, Aurèle Nicolet, Alain Marion, Angelo Persichilli as well as by the seminars held in Paris by Sergiu Celibidache on the “Phenomenology of Music” and by others given in Rome by Leonard Bernstein. She is an award-winner of many international music competitions (between others, 1. prize of the international Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona - 2001) and has performed as soloist in prestigious venues and renowned international festivalsthroughout Europe, South and Central America, Africa, Russia and Japan (Wigmore Hall/London, Great Philharmonic Hall/St. Petersburg, Grosses Saal Mozarteum and Grosses Festspielhaus/Salzburg, Vienna Konzerthaus, Teatro Olimpico/Vicenza, Palau de la Musica Catalana/Barcelona, Konzerthaus/Dortmund, etc.). In addition to her performing activities, Francesca Canali is a passionate and dedicated teacher and scientific researcher, who pursues a holistic pedagogical approach to instrumental didactics and music pedagogy focusing on the ‘human factor’ involved in playing. She was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music Education „cum Laude“ at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg with an innovative dissertation about the anatomy and the physiological processes involved in flute and wind instrument playing. This interdisciplinary research leads to the development of a new pedagogical model and sets new impulses for musical interpretation on winds instruments. Francesca Canali is actually based in Salzburg, Austria, and teachs at the Kalaidos Musikhochschule in Zurich, at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Landesmusikschulwerk Oberösterreich. She has been invited as an expert by many institutions and universities and she regularly leads international masterclasses, seminars, workshop and conferences all around the world.
