History of the Austrian-MasterClasses

43 years Austrian Master Classes!

The Austrian Master Classes were founded in 1979 by em. Univ. Prof. Bruno Steinschaden, violinist and professor of violin at the Mozarteum University. Even before that, he organized music weeks for several years in Mauterndorf in the Lungau in the province of Salzburg. Since the renovation in 1979, the courses of the Austrian Master Classes have taken place at Schloss Zell an der Pram in Upper Austria.

In 1994, Univ. Prof. Georg Steinschaden took over the management of the Austrian Master Classes and, due to its great popularity and demand, gradually expanded it into an internationally renowned institution.

The youth and master classes of the Austrian Master Classes are distinguished by internationally renowned lecturers from the university and music school sector as well as international concert life at the highest level and with a special connection to the Austrian musical tradition.

In the 45 years of its existence, music students, performers and educators from 87 countries took part in the world-renowned Austrian Master Classes.

MEISTERKURSE for highly talented young students as well as musicians who are already in professional life are represented in the course programme as well as YOUTH COURSES | MUSIC CAMPS for children and teenagers, where play & fun are not neglected.

The stylish ambience of Schloss Zell an der Pram in the Upper Austrian Innviertel offers an excellent setting for the youth and master classes of the Austrian Master Classes with its inspiring atmosphere.
