“Curiosity and a fascination with discovery” – with these words, *Fono Forum* highlights the distinctive qualities of Lea Birringer, who has made a name for herself internationally as an artist. The magazine pays tribute to her as “a brilliant violinist who, alongside impressive technical skill, possesses an expressiveness that captivates the listener”. Described as “one of the most talented violinists of her generation” (Pizzicato), her playing, according to BBC Music Magazine, combines “vigor and precision”.
Even as a young student, Lea Birringer caused a sensation with her debut at the Berlin Philharmonie. Today she collaborates with renowned orchestras, including the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polska Filharmonia Bałtycka, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and the Staatskapelle Halle.
Highlights of recent years have included appearances at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the MDR Musiksommer, the Alfredo de Saint Malo Festival in Panama, the Davos Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Lugano Musica Festival.
Concerts have taken the winner of the 15th International Johannes Brahms Competition to venues including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Gasteig in Munich and the Louvre in Paris. In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded the Culture Prize of the Saarbrücken City Association. Lea Birringer was also a long-standing scholarship holder of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
As a passionate chamber musician, she has performed with artists such as Igor Levit, Wen-Sinn Yang, Julian Steckel, Eszter Haffner and Barbara Bonney. The violinist regularly shares the stage with her sister, the pianist Esther Birringer. “The name Birringer is one to remember,” stated WDR regarding their joint debut CD. Since then, Lea Birringer has released a series of further recordings that have been met with great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
In 2019, Rubicon Classics released the album *Di tanti palpiti*, which received nominations at the International Classical Music Awards and for the German Record Critics’ Prize. Her solo album *Transformation*, released in 2021, spans a range from J. S. Bach to Lera Auerbach and, according to SR Kultur, “reveals the maturity of her artistry”. This album was also nominated for the International Classical Music Awards and the Opus Klassik. In 2022, a recording featuring the violin concertos by Mendelssohn and Christian Sinding was released. The American *Fanfare* magazine praised Lea Birringer as a performer who “possesses both remarkable emotional expressiveness and outstanding technical mastery”. Her latest album, featuring the violin concertos by Sibelius and Szymanowski – produced in co-production with SWR Kultur – was named ‘Concerto Choice’ in the *BBC Music Magazine* in 2025.
