David Frühwirth

The Salzburg-born violinist David Frühwirth studied at the Mozarteum with Prof. Paul Roczek and Ruggiero Ricci, Prof. Zackar Bron in Lübeck and Pinchas Zukerman in New York. During his studies he enjoyed working with chamber music teachers such as Walter Levin, Isidore Cohen and Jaime Laredo. He is a multiple prizewinner at national and international competitions and has performed in many important music centres, including: Musikverein Wien, Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall N. Y. , Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg, Herkulessaal Munich and Mariinsky Concert Hall. As a soloist, he has performed with the Mozarteum Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, Dortmund Philharmonic, RSO Berlin, CNSO China, Vienna, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestras and is regularly  invited to Music Festivals such as; Salzburg Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Richard Strauss Festival, Davos Festival, Spring Festival Budapest and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Chamber music is an important part of his career and so he regularly plays with outstanding colleagues. Since 2006 he is also first Violinist of the “Klenze” string quartet. David Frühwirth explores music literature with great enthusiasm for forgotten works and has brought many back on stage. Numerous CD releases (Capriccio, Crystal Records, OEHMS Classics, Hungaroton, EDA and AVIE) show his artistic work. Teaching young musicians is for Univ.-Prof. David Frühwirth particularly close to his heart and so he dedicates himself with enthusiasm to his pedagogical work. For 20 years he has been giving many master classes, training workshops and lectures in Europe, South America and Asia and is also board member of the „Austrian Master Classes“. In 2021 he was appointed a professorship at the Mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He also received the Millennium Award in London for Lecture Recitals at the Menuhin School of Music and Oxford University. David Frühwirth plays a violin by “J. B. Vuillaume” and is the exclusive partner of Thomastik-Infeld Strings Vienna.
