Tobias Neubauer was born in Linz and received his first piano lessons at the LMS Kremsmünster with Werner Schröckmayr. He studied piano at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz in the classes of Sven Birch and Oleg Marshev and specialised in instrumental and vocal accompaniment with Nada Kecman and Till Alexander Körber. He then completed a master's degree in vocal accompaniment with Julius Drake at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with honours.

In addition to numerous other masterclasses, in summer 2015 he took part in courses under the direction of Robert Holl, Rudolf Jansen, Julius Drake, Helmut Deutsch, Birgid Steinberger, Elly Ameling, Andreas Schmidt and Eugene Asti as a scholarship holder of the Franz Schubert Institute in Baden.

Together with Martin Summer, Tobias Neubauer was a finalist in the international competition "Franz Schubert and Modernism" in Graz. Tobias Neubauer was awarded the pianist prize at the international Paula Salomon Lindberg Song Competition 2015 at the Berlin University of the Arts. He works as a university teacher for accompaniment at the Institute for Singing, Voice and Music Theatre at the Anton Bruckner Private University and at the Upper Austrian State Music School.
